MACULAR EPIRETINAL MEMBRANE

Surgical precision to treat macular epiretinal membrane

What is the Macular Epiretinal Membrane?

The macular epiretinal membrane (EPM) is a tissue that grows on the surface of the retina in the macular area, which is the area critical for vision. When this membrane contracts and wrinkles, it causes progressive deformation of the retina, resulting in visual impairment.

Symptoms

· Slight distortion of images and/or wavy lines.

· Blurred vision in the central region of the field of vision.

·Distorted Vision: Straight lines appear wavy.

· Scotomas: Missing lines.

Treatment

In milder cases, surveillance can be considered, with periodic checkups. However, when vision worsens, images become distorted, and the normal anatomy of the macula deteriorates, surgery should be considered.
