Pediatric ophthalmology

Your little one’s vision, in the best hands.

We accompany your children’s vision at every stage.

Why is pediatric ophthalmology important?

From birth until age 8, the visual system matures. If there are prescription defects or corneal opacity at this stage, the risk of suffering from amblyopathy, also known as lazy eye, is very high. This abnormal development in these early years can lead to a significant reduction in vision.

Healthy eyes to learn, play and dream.

Why is it important to see a specialist on time?

After the age of 8, it is virtually impossible to reverse lazy eye defect or amblyopathy, so if we don’t act sooner, it may be too late.

We recommend consulting a pediatric ophthalmologist to detect or rule out any abnormalities early. It’s also important to keep in mind that good vision helps prevent academic failure in children.

When should children have their eyes checked?

Below we detail the recommended pediatric ophthalmological examinations during the first years of life:
During the first month
This examination is essential to rule out serious eye diseases and malformations such as glaucoma or congenital cataracts.
At 7 months
This examination serves to rule out or diagnose strabismus.
At 19 months

This checkup is also very important, as it is at this time that retinoblastoma (the most common malignant intraocular tumor in childhood) can be detected and an early diagnosis of amblyopathy or lazy eye can be made.

At 4 years old

This examination examines visual acuity and is useful for detecting possible refractive errors.

After this check-up, it is recommended that you visit an ophthalmologist every two years until you reach the age of 14.
