RETINAL VEIN THROMBOSIS

Because your vision deserves a second chance

What is retinal vein thrombosis?

It involves partial or complete obstruction of the retinal veins. It can affect the central retinal vein (central vein thrombosis) or only a branch of this central vein (branch vein thrombosis).
When the vein becomes blocked, blood continues to enter the tissues through the arteries, resulting in venous engorgement and subsequent capillary rupture. These vascular changes cause a typical retinal hemorrhage in the affected area.

Symptoms

Sudden, painless vision loss is the most common symptom of venous thrombosis. It occurs because the area of the retina affected by the vein blockage suffers from a lack of oxygen (ischemia), causing the death of retinal nerve cells and, consequently, a loss of visual function. The visual prognosis will depend on the affected area and its proximity to the macula (center of vision).

Advanced ophthalmologic follow-up for diabetic patients.

Symptoms

Blurred vision: decreased central vision (distance vision and reading ability are reduced).

Distorted visio: straight lines appear wavy.

Spotty vision: internal bleeding in the eye can cause the appearance of spots that partially or even completely obscure vision.

Diagnosis
People with diabetes should have regular checkups, even if they don’t have symptoms. Self-assessment is very important in this regard.

Treatments

Intravitreal antiangiogenic (anti-VEGF) therapy, intravitreal corticosteroid injections, laser therapy, and retinal surgery are the treatments used in the management of diabetic retinopathy.

At PRESBIT, we believe that early diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy are extremely important. Identifying patients at risk and establishing a preventive and monitoring regimen helps prevent blindness caused by this disease.
