The CO2 Laser Cool Peel is an innovative aesthetic treatment that helps us improve the quality of our skin.

However, many people are still unaware of what it is and the benefits it can bring to them, so we asked one of our aesthetic specialists, Dr. Juan Maisterrena, to answer some questions.

Dr. Juan Maisterrena
What is the Cool Peel? Dr. J.M.– The Cool Peel is a non-invasive aesthetic treatment that improves your skin without surgery. Using a state-of-the-art CO2 laser, this procedure reduces expression lines, sun spots, and minimizes pores, leaving your skin looking fresher and more radiant. This is because it renews the skin by removing dead cells and stimulating the growth of healthier, more radiant tissue. This treatment is ideal for any skin type, whether you want to reduce the signs of aging or prevent them from appearing. The best part is that the results are almost immediate and the recovery time is super short—less than a day! How does the CO2 Laser work? Dr. J.M.– Many times when we hear laser, we think it’s all the same, but the truth is that there are several types of lasers depending on the source that produces them. The CO2 Laser, as its name indicates, is produced using this element, CO2 or carbon dioxide, as a source, producing a laser that has the H2O (water) molecule as its target, turning it into an ablative laser, which evaporates tissue that contains water. It is used, initially, to cut or evaporate benign skin lesions and, later with specific parameters, to improve the quality of the skin, calling this treatment Facial Resurfacing. Traditional facial resurfacing uses controlled thermal damage to perform cutaneous biostimulation to improve skin quality. This includes treating fine or mild wrinkles, tightening pores, managing acne scars, or lightening blemishes.
What is the difference between traditional facial resurfacing and the Cool Peel? Dr. J.M.– Although both use the CO2 laser, there is a big difference. With the Cool Peel, the laser works at a lower temperature (hence the term “cool”), which means a shorter recovery time—just one day, compared to the 8 to 15 days of traditional resurfacing. Additionally, the Cool Peel causes less inflammation, less burning, and less pain. In some cases, you don’t even need anesthesia! Can the Cool Peel be performed only on the face? Dr. J.M.– No, laser treatment isn’t limited to just the face. With the Cool Peel, we can also rejuvenate the décolletage and the back of the hands, achieving surprising results. Finally, a few quick questions: When can the treatment be performed? Dr. J.M.– Anytime of the year. The Cool Peel is the only CO2 laser treatment that can be performed year-round, including during the summer months. At what age can the Cool Peel be performed? Dr. J.M.– We recommend starting at age 30. How long does the procedure take? Dr. J.M.– It takes approximately 15 minutes to treat the entire face. If we also want to improve the appearance of the décolletage and face, it takes 30 minutes total. And finally, how many sessions are recommended? Dr. J.M.-By treating your skin three times a year, you can achieve optimal results and have healthy, radiant skin all year round.
