OCULAR AESTHETICS
SURGERY AND AESTHETIC MEDICINE OF THE EYELIDS (OCULOPLASTICS)
What is Oculoplastics?
EIt is a subspecialty of Ophthalmology that is dedicated to the medical-surgical treatment of the diseases of the eyelids, the tear duct and the orbit (eye socket). It not only deals with the treatment of these structures with functional purposes, but also with aesthetic objectives.
Treatments
Blepharoplasty
It is the most common cosmetic surgery of the eyelids. It is done to correct excess skin or unwanted eyelid bags. It is highly recommended to be performed by an ophthalmologist, specialized in ocular plastic surgery thus minimizing postoperative risks.
Botulinum Toxin:
Botulinum Toxin causes paralysis or decreases function of the muscles to which it is applied. It allows relaxation of the oculofacial muscles temporarily, prevents the formation of wrinkles and softens existing ones. The main areas of treatment are the forehead lines, crow’s feet and the lines between the eyebrows.
Fillers
Fillers are substances injected to restore volume or erase wrinkles. The most used is hyaluronic acid. The face is harmoniously treated, considering the entire oculofacial region in cases that require it.
Collagen Inducers: are injectable products that activate the natural production of collagen (protein responsible for the support and firmness of the skin). The main objective is to treat facial sagging and get a firmer skin. It is also applicable in people with loss of facial volume after weight loss.
Eyebrows ptosis (drooping eyebrows)
There are several approaches to the treatment of “drooping eyebrows”, individualizing the procedure for each case.
Cantoplasty/Canthopexy:
Adds tension to the lower eyelid, raising its external angle. It is used in patients with “droopy eyes” or with “sad eyes”. It is a procedure that often complements blepharoplasty.
Mesotherapy
This consists of micropunctions that allow small doses of substances to be introduced that nourish, hydrate and fight the oxidation of the skin. It can eliminate fine wrinkles, blemishes and other signs of aging.
Peeling
It is a technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the skin. Chemical peels are intended to remove the outermost layers of the skin and stimulate the renewal of it. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old one.
