What is IPL laser?
The IPL laser is used in ophthalmology for the treatment and relief of eye diseases such as dry eye. At PRESBIT we have the Thermaeye Plus technology, based on high intensity pulsed light (IPL), which comes from the dermatology and tissue regeneration sector. Thermaeye Plus is the first machine in the world with an ophthalmological certificate, which endorses it as the best and most appropriate treatment for dry eye.
Which patients can undergo IPL?
The IPL dry eye treatment can be performed directly on any skin type (from phototype 1 to 6), without the need for filters or other additional cooling systems that are necessary in most laser and IPL platforms, in order to avoid burns or changes in skin pigmentation. In addition, thanks to LIUR technology, the treatment can be applied directly to the lower and upper eyelids, as well as to the free edge of the eyelashes, something that was previously impossible for safety reasons and which greatly reduced the efficacy of this type of treatment. Now we can achieve a full beneficial effect with maximum safety.
What are the causes of dry eye?

In most cases, dry eye is due to the poor function of the Meibomian glands, which are located in the eyelids, very close to the eyelashes. These glands are responsible for producing the fatty component of the tear, which helps prevent it from evaporating easily, allowing proper lubrication of the cornea.

How is IPL treatment performed?
The treatment consists of applying several constant series of short intensity micropulses on the eyelids to correct the problem. This treatment reduces inflammation and stimulates circulation in the area and, most importantly, reactivates the nerve endings of the glands so that they can once again secrete the fats necessary to protect the surface of the eye.
What other eye diseases can be treated with IPL?

Its revolutionary technology makes it possible to treat other eye diseases such as blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids), styes (chalazion), conjunctivitis or infection by Demodex (a mite that can colonize the eyelid glands).

Thanks to its multiple filters, the device can also be used to treat rosacea (couperose), pigmented lesions and skin blemishes, telangectasias (spider veins) and skin wrinkles thanks to its tensor and collagen-inducing effect.
